Day 35: From Greenfield to Richmond, IN – A Day of Nostalgia and New Memories

Last night was an absolute treat as my son, Brady, came to visit me. We had a wonderful dinner at St. Elmo in Indianapolis, a perfect way to recharge for the day ahead.

Today’s ride took us 53 miles from Greenfield, IN to Richmond, IN. The weather was in the low 70s, somewhat overcast with minimal headwinds, making for a pleasant and manageable day on the bike.

Our first stop was the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown, where Gene Hackman starred in the movie “Hoosiers.” It was a surreal experience to shoot hoops in such a historic place, and it brought back memories of watching the iconic film.

Next, we visited the Madonna of the Trail statue erected by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). There are only 12 of these statues throughout the USA, and it was a privilege to see one up close. I had the pleasure of meeting Cynthia Masterson, a DAR member from Ballwin, Missouri, who was at the monument when I arrived. It was inspiring to connect with someone who shares a passion for preserving history and honoring those who came before us.

Cycling through Richmond, we made a stop at the Richmond Rose Garden in Glenn Miller Park. The garden was in full bloom, and the vibrant colors were a feast for the eyes. It was a peaceful and beautiful stop that provided a moment of relaxation amidst our journey.

For lunch, we visited Roscoe’s Coffee House, where we enjoyed a delightful meal and recharged for the final stretch of the day. The coffee and atmosphere were exactly what we needed to keep our spirits high.
