Today we cycled 91.6 miles from Springfield to Champaign under overcast skies. The route was mostly flat, with a repetitive but charming view of barn after barn stretching across the horizon. Though the scenery was monotonous, it had a certain tranquility that made the miles pass by smoothly.

Our first SAG stop provided a delightful treat of donuts, giving us a sweet boost to continue our journey. Later, at our second stop at a convenience store, we all indulged in bottles of chocolate milk—a simple pleasure that felt luxurious after the steady pedaling.

The day was long and, for the most part, uneventful until we encountered a whimsical surprise: a blue barn with a dinosaur in front of it. This unexpected sight brought a burst of laughter to everyone. The dinosaur, with its playful and out-of-place appearance, injected a sense of fun and lightheartedness into our day. It was a reminder that even on the longest, most monotonous stretches, there are always moments of joy and surprise waiting to be discovered.

Though the day lacked dramatic landscapes or significant events, it was a testament to the simple joys of cycling and the unexpected delights that make each day unique.

Here’s to the little moments that bring laughter and lightness to our journey.
