Today was one of our toughest yet, with 107 miles of cycling through heat and relentless headwinds. Right from the start, we faced a hill as we left the hotel, setting the tone for a challenging but rewarding day.

Rural Illinois stretched out before us with its expansive landscapes and quiet roads. The scenery, though beautiful, felt like a test of endurance as the sun beat down and the wind pushed back against every pedal stroke. Yet, the journey continued, and with each mile, we reminded ourselves of the purpose behind this ride.

A highlight of the day was our water rest stop at the American Legion Post 743. It provided much-needed respite and hydration, and it was heartening to see the support from the local community. These moments of connection and encouragement make such a difference on the harder days.

Back at the hotel, I was interviewed by Channel 20 WICS Springfield, which broadcasts on both ABC and Fox. It was an opportunity to share the mission behind this journey, raising awareness and funds for veterans with PTSD and mental health issues. Every bit of exposure helps, and I’m grateful for the platform to speak about this cause.

Despite the physical demands of the day, the support from others and the sense of purpose kept my spirits high. Each day brings new challenges, but also new rewards and connections that make it all worthwhile.
