Day 29

Title: Day 29: Reaching Our 8th State and the 2000-Mile Mark

Today’s ride took us from Kirksville, MO to Quincy, IL, spanning 76 miles and marking our entry into our eighth state. The weather was perfect for cycling, with a nice sunny day and a light breeze to keep us cool.

Our route followed Route 6 to Route 24, which is also known as the Veterans Medal of Honor Highway. It was a meaningful path, as it reminded us of the bravery and sacrifices of our veterans. Along the way, we passed the Quincy Veteran Memorial Cemetery, a somber and beautiful tribute to those who served.

One of the highlights of the day was crossing the mighty Mississippi River. The bridge offered breathtaking views and a sense of achievement as we left Missouri behind and entered Illinois. This crossing felt symbolic, marking another significant milestone in our journey.

I’ve made a new friend, Carol from Maryland. Meeting fellow cyclists and travelers like Carol adds a wonderful dimension to this adventure. Sharing stories, experiences, and motivations helps keep our spirits high and our determination strong.

Today was especially momentous as we accomplished 2000 miles. Reflecting on the journey so far, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences, the beautiful landscapes, and the wonderful people I’ve met along the way.

Here’s to many more miles and memories as we continue our ride across this incredible country.
