Title: Day 28: Rolling Hills and Friendly Faces

Today’s ride took us from Chillicothe to Kirksville, covering 75.4 miles. The landscape was dominated by mile after mile of rolling hills, making for a physically demanding but visually rewarding journey. The endless fields of corn and sprawling farms provided a scenic backdrop, highlighting the vast agricultural heartland of America.

The elevation gain of 4665 feet meant we were constantly climbing, and it certainly tested our endurance. Despite the challenges, there were moments that lifted our spirits. One such moment was our stop for a SAG treat. We pulled into a gas station for a quick break, and there we met Karl, the local resident mayor. His cheerful demeanor and warm welcome were a delightful surprise. Karl’s friendliness and stories provided a refreshing break from the constant pedaling and reminded us of the wonderful people we meet on this journey.

As we arrived in Kirksville, I reflected on the day’s ride. The physical challenges were significant, but the encounters with people like Karl and the beautiful, ever-changing scenery made it all worthwhile. Every day on this journey brings new experiences and new friends, each one adding to the rich tapestry of this adventure.
