Day 18 of our cross-country cycling expedition tested our endurance and determination. We braved the windswept plains of Dalhart, Texas, and pushed on to the welcoming embrace of Guymon, Oklahoma. Crossing into our fifth state, we were enveloped in the familiar rhythm of the road, with the horizon, wind turbines, and miles of open road stretching out before us.

With each pedal stroke, we drew closer to our destination, crossing into Oklahoma and marking another milestone on our journey. The landscape around us shifted subtly, the flat plains of Texas giving way to gentle rolling hills of Oklahoma. But the spirit of adventure remained the same as we continued our trek through the heartland of America.

As we pedaled through the vast expanse of the plains, the horizon seemed to stretch endlessly before us, punctuated only by the towering blades of wind turbines turning gracefully in the breeze. The landscape was a serene and simple canvas.

Amidst the solitude of the plains, we found moments of camaraderie and connection at a gas station along the way. Lines of bicycles stood parked outside as riders took a well-deserved break, replenishing their energy with cokes and chips and swapping stories of the road.

As we arrived in Guymon after 72 miles of cycling, we couldn’t help but marvel at the beauty and resilience of the windswept plains. From the endless horizons to the towering wind turbines, each mile brought us closer to our goal while reminding us of the vastness and majesty of the world around us. We felt a sense of accomplishment, of being a part of something bigger than ourselves.

it’s interesting that the bikes are quite different – especially the tires. Marseilles’ are wider than some others. An advantage for wider bs thinner?

that symbol on the OK state line sign would make a nice quilt design.
